Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire, a quiet community situated in The West Island of Montreal is home to a number of small enterprises. People unfamiliar with the term frequently think that it's a separate island off the coast from Montreal, but in fact there is a lot more to it. West Island is home to everything from the city of Lachine west. There is an argument that it was the place of birth for Amanda Brugel, but while it's true that she was born there, her stay there was brief. Brugel had a childhood in Courtice close to Oshawa. Early ambitions were to be an experienced dancer. However, a growth rise meant that she had outgrown her dance partner. She acknowledged in a piece published by the Toronto Star that she was 6'1" tall and wore heels. When I outgrew my male friends I became a bit too big and quit. The former dancers usually turn to acting, and in the case of Brugel, it was her encouragement from her drama instructor at high school that pushed her in the direction she needed. Her teacher suggested she audition to play the character of Anne in their annual school production. She auditioned and got the role of lead of Anne of Green Gables. The show was a recipient of the Fine Arts Talent scholarship at York University, where she was a theatre student and earned a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts in 2000.
