
Gaga met performance artist Lady Starlight during this time and, following a performance at Lollapalooza Festival in 2007 Gaga was signed by Vince Herbert to Streamline Records which is an imprint from Interscope Records. Gaga was an apprentice songwriter during her apprenticeship with Famous Music Publishing. This business was later purchased and changed its name to Sony/ATV Music Publishing. The result was that she was hired to compose songs for Britney Spears and labelmates New Kids on the Block, Fergie, and the Pussycat Dolls. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. In 2008, Gaga released her first album 'The fame' to only a few radio listeners; Gaga toured around Europe and at gay clubs across the US to launch the album. However, it was not until her debut single "Just Dance" was brought to the attention of the public in 2009 that Gaga was a star on the scene. Gaga was suffering from a laceration to the labrum in her right hip. She had been keeping it under wraps for several months, hoping to be enough to go on tour. The singer was unable walk after her show in Toronto and was in extreme discomfort. The tour was cancelled.
